The boys both got a half rack with beans and corn. I really liked the beans and the corn was fine but tasted canned and I prefer fresh corn on the cob. I ordered the chicken tenders and fries and was suprised with how crispy and tasty the chicken was. Service was excellent and I loved the mountain lodge decor.

This is our go-to steak house. The steaks are bar-none (better than Ruth's Chris - no joke). The staff is always friendly and as quick as can be. The drinks and sides equally as good too. This is our closest location for Smokey Bones. They always leave us satisfied.

Took my son here last night so he could try it out...couple things to note for service: -couple of their hosts/hostesses are a little rude -the waitress we had was a little difficult to understand plus she was overly loud -suggested the baby back ribs when I tried to order the St. Louis ribs which I should have gone with those instead Food review: -Tx style brisket is not truly Tx style. I don't know of a place in Texas that serves brisket in cubes of meat and the splashes bbq sauce on it. Told the waitress and she wanted to argue that's what TX style brisket looks/tastes like...beg to differ especially being from there! - Baby back ribs were dry and not very tasty -bbq chicken was also dry and the seasoning was not very good at all...more of a vinegar taste Positives: fried apples, cole slaw, and the crowd pleaser appetizer Overall a blah experience and definitely not something I'd write home about...better bbq places in the area.

Great food, great service! I rated this a 4/5 because the service is great but it is a hit and miss. Some days you might get stuck with someone who doesn't want to be there, but once you inform another waitress or the manager, your experience will turn around and it becomes an enjoyable dining experience. The food tastes great, and the restrooms are clean! =] Always an A+ in my book!

We had going away party at Smokey Bones today. We brought 30 people and they provided us with one waitress for a thirty-person table. To her credit she worked hard and was never seen standing around. She was always moving but one waitress was not enough. I had been there 45 minutes before my order was taken. We had a few people leave without eating because they needed to get back work. The food was fine my smokehouse burger was medium to medium well vice the medium rare I had requested but still good. I was fortunate in that I was in a booth and was able to use their automated bill paying on the table. The rest took a while as the poor waitress was left handle about 20 bills on her own. Recommendation to the management: next time some makes a reservation for 30 provide the poor waitress some help. At minimum we should have had two.

The food was good but I was bothered by the service. I walked in to the bar and the crowd was sparse. Despite that, the hostess told us it would be a 5-10 minute wait. There were open tables around. We ended up sitting at the bar instead of waiting and it took another 5 minutes for a bartender to even notice us. The bar was not crowded. The food arrived at a decent time but our cups of water was never replenished despite being there for an hour. Food was good and we were satisfied but they need to hire better staff.

Do you ever feel tired after walking up a single flight of stairs? Does the act of chewing leave you out of breath? Do you believe that gravy is a food group? Does the phrase "Nectar of the Gods" elicits thoughts of BBQ sauce? Have you ever wanted to get out of work so bad that a heart attack seems like a viable option? If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, then have I got a deal for you! SMOKEY BONES! For the low, low price of an artery stent or double bypass, you can try one of the crowd favorites like the Pulled Pork Sammy or the BIG TIME BLT! All of the wait staff are CPR certified* and the front doors are now DOUBLE WIDE! *probably not, but should be

I'm not a fan of chain restaurants but Smokey Bones hosts and feeds like its a local joint. I've come in several times and never been disappointed. For those that read my reviews you know that I'm always looking for a great BBQ joint. Tonight I had the Double Trouble platter which is two sections of 1/3 rack of ribs. I also had sides of fried apples and onion rings. It's heavenly, BBQ and fries food! The ribs were perfect. A nice crust of caramelized crust with a smoky ring. I also love the sauce options. My favor is the mustard BBQ sauce and a close second is the Carolina sauce. Both are tangy with vinegar and finish with a nice spice. The service here is first rate. I always look forward to coming here and then thinking of coming back.

I always enjoyed coming here and have the pleasure dining in. It's been awhile and I am extremely excited to be here because I know that I am getting good and delicious food. Its busy tonight thankfully we were directly seated and served. I'm also delighted to place a 5 star ratings with regards to this place. I believe Smokey Bones deserves to be rated high despite being categorized as a chain restaurant. I have never seen a place like this before that the standard and consistency of the food and hospitality is remarkable. As for tonight visit, I ordered the create of your own combo; a meat platter consisting of pulled pork, spiced sausages and smoked chicken wings with a side of mashed potato with brown gravy, steamed brocolli and garlic bread. I thought the entire meal was perfectly well seasoned and tasted divine. The pulled pork was tender and juicy. The sausages and chicken wings was cooked to perfection. I truly enjoyed every bite of it. The portion is extremely generous and can be served for two people. Sad to say I can't make it to the dessert round but I strongly suggest to try my ultimate favourite leaning chocolate tower. You won't be disappointed. One thing that I love about this branch is the terrific customer service. The staff is very attentive and polite. Its amazing how the always make happy and filled my heart desire. I will absolutely come back again...xoxo

I have tried this place a couple of times now. Both experiences were less than average on both service and food quality. I think this is more of a bar than a restaurant as they are open until 2 am. My guess is that it would be a fun place to have a couple of beers while watching football but it is not the best place to go for just lunch or dinner.

Their salmon was amazing. The service was good. Nice atmosphere. I will be going back.

Where do I begin. I was so excited that there was a smokey bones right near my hotel room. So the first time I came in my wings were made wrong and it took forever for them to come out. So I'm thinking maybe they were busy and the kitchen was backed up okay so I let it slide. Then I brung my friends in and the food was cold and the kitchen didn't even make her food over, they just decided to heat it up and give it right back to her. Then I come again and I ordered just a single order of fries and it took almost 30 mins to get them ohhhhh and my friend decided to get a drink and at the bottom of the glass was some type of substance and the bartender had the nerve to say that it was a glass that they put pens in so it's probably ink residue....really Smokey Bones you guys need to do better!! I'm so disappointed.

Came here on a Friday night around 10. Always passed by this place and finally gave in on trying Smokey Bone's out. Music that plays on the inside plays on the outside too. When I got there it was techno house music, not really my cup of my tea but later on their played hip hop and r&b and everyone was getting their grove on. It has a modern cabin feel. Dark lit, huge bar in the middle with flat screens all around. Three huge sections of seating all over. No problem for big groups. Our server Kortnee came right away, ordered a pitcher of Yeung Ling which was only $7 bucks SCORE. The pitcher fills up 4 glasses. Cornbread: from the appetizer section comes in a round 5 inch deep dish pan with butter on the side. Big, cakey, and sweet made the way I like. I had take the rest togo. Double Trouble Ribs: I got the half rack Baby Backs with brown sugar and St. Louis with original sauce. Both were tender and sweet. I liked the original sauce a little bit more. Comes with toast. And for the two sides I tried their mac and coleslaw. Mac n Cheese: it was okay, it was dry and it lacked flavor, I wouldn't get it next time. Coleslaw: the sauce was light, airy, and creamy and the vegetables were cut consistently small almost string like, easier to down. I also dipped the ribs in the sauces they already had on the table. My favorite was the chipotle BBQ and Carolina sauce. Overall, I had a nice relaxing time, enjoying the vibes from everyone around. Service was on the slow side, other than that I would come back for the beer and ribs. Music was a plus for me. I came at good time.

First off let me start by saying I ordered a sprite: A single beverage. Not only did it take over ten plus minutes to return with the beverage but, in the better part of hour spent I'm the establishment, did not once receive a timely refill. More than half an hour was spent with am empty cup after I consumed said beverage. The initial lack of attention to the table we were in detered me from ordering food. Which I'm thankful for. The two booths surrounding ours for some reason received almost stellar service, being informed about drink specials, soups of the day, desert options, and restaurant favorites. The guest I brought ordered an appetizer, and a cheeseburger entree. She also could not get the attention of our waitress to request condiments nor a beverage refill. However after our checks were paid for and my guests food boxed up, our refills arrived. Definitely some of the worst service I've received in Virginia beach. I would rate it zero stars if possible.

when I initially went to this place I loved it, great music great atmosphere good food, however I have since been back and the last 3 times I saw very disturbing things. I glanced in the kitchen while I was waiting to be seated I saw a server scratch his butt then adjust an appetizer. I have had rude service, poor service, and the food, well I haven't eaten there since I saw the kitchen debacle.

Good food. Great place to catch a game if you can get a good table or seat at the bar. Always have specials. I like the smoked wings. Ribs are good too! I've even ordered online and picked up and that was a good experience as well!

One of my husband's favorite spots. We were obsessed with their Kettle Chips. Although they have those on the menu anymore we still love our other favorites on the menu. The wait can be annoying some times...however great food spots are always packed. Never had a problem with service so I give that 2 thumbs up!

Great place loaded fries are a must! Margaritas not so good.. But I had shots of tequila, and for $5 it is worth it! Staff is very friendly and kind. It is a must go visit!

Decent price for decent food. Food: the quality of food is good and I don't think that most people will have complaints, but it is possible to find better quality food for the same price. Service: the waiters/waitresses provided good quality service. No problems at all. Atmosphere: the interior of the restaurant was clean and well designed, if not a little bit simple and boring. There's nothing wrong with it, but you're the kind if person who likes restaurants where the walls are covered with "cheeky" little items (think Applebee's) then the interior of this place will be boring to you. That being said, its fine. I would eat there again.

I only went to the bar section but I loved it! The bartender there was Erin, she is great! She had great mixed drink ideas, a great personality and awesome customer relations. I want to return to taste the food that smelled amazing! I will surely return and I've been suggesting this location to everyone I know.

Where to begin. Went to this place for an hour lunch, beginning at 12:15. I didn't get back to the office which is right down the street until 1:45. If you're on a time schedule this is definitely the wrong place to be. I asked the waitress what size the petite sirloin was to which I was told was 6oz. That was a little too small for me so I went with the "regular" size (the weights aren't posted on the menu btw) medium-rare. What I received, about 30-40 mins later, was what looked to be a 6-8 oz, dried up slab of meat, seared on one side and left there to cook ALL the way through. I don't even think it was flipped. I understand people not getting the temp perfect but this is the first time I've ever ordered a medium-rare steak and it come back with not even a little bit of pink. Also, whoever owns this place can do to hire some bus-boys. Tables were left untouched with dishes and glasses the entire time we were there. I would leave no stars but seeing as how I can't, the waitress gets the star as she was at least very nice.

I was just here last night and the service was great. Our server was check in on us if whether or not we needed anything every so often. I got a regular BLT with ciabatta bread and I liked it. Something that did stand out to me: I've gone to many different restaurants that serve alcohol and Smokey bones actually puts the prices on the menu for specialty drinks. I really like that because I am aware of what I am spending on. I thought that their drink prices were pretty reasonable. This was a good experience.

This was my first time coming here. I've passed the place many times, but have now finally ventured inside. When you first walk in, the looks like the inside of a lodge. The bar area is located right behind the hostess station. After looking through the menu, I decided to start with an appetizer. I had the pretzel bones, which was amazing. The pretzels were nice and soft. The cheese dipping sauce complemented the pretzel bones very well. For the entree, I had the Angus half pound burger with pepper jack cheese, peppered bacon, and the usual toppings on a pretzel bun. When the food came out, the burger looked small, but once you started eating, the looks were deceiving. It was a lot bigger than it looks. The burger was cooked perfectly and was probably one of the best burgers I have had from anywhere. The only complaint I'd have is that fries have a separate cost, and the portion size of the fries were pretty small. Overall, this was a great place to come. I will definitely come back in, and next time, I plan to try some of their chicken or smoked turkey barbecue. If you're up in the Town Center area, you should definitely try this place out.

Seems like they need more help. I tried calling my order in to go pick it up. Let it ring for forever and nobody ever answered. So just decided to drive on over and put my order in when I got there. So when I get there, there's nobody at the hostess stand so I go and sit at the bar. Nobody in the bar either. Sat there for a few minutes before someone, I'm guessing she was the manager, finally asked if I had been helped. I told her no and that I just needed to put in a to go order. Bout that time the bartender finally showed up. She gave me the menu and gave me a coke to drink while I waited. She didn't stay long. She was off doing something else pretty soon. The phone rang a couple of times while I was there and nobody ever answered because nobody was in there to answer it. My food was ready pretty quickly and it was a big portion. Pretty good BBQ, but not the best I've ever had. I will probably give them another chance sometime. Maybe they were just short staffed that day.

Greatest chain BBQ ever! Come for the ribs or the burgers, stay for the beer and the big game, leave full and with fresh fried doughnuts! They do play the games loud so if your ears are sensitive bring ear plugs.

My husband and I both got a combo with Favorites because we love to try everything. I went for the ribs and brisket. He went for the ribs, pulled pork and hot link. We were super impressed with our meal. They have a dessert here that involves chocolate cake, enrobed in donut batter, deep fried to perfection and served with a side of raspberry sauce. If you don't care about how many calories you're eating .. You have to get this!!! Ok. That is all. Totally love this place and will definitely be back.

If it wasn't for the short black guy that's a manager, I would have left. I gave 2 stars bc I called in for a pickup order and was put on hold for 10 mins. Luckily, I work in the next building over so I walked over to see they were not busy at all and people were just standing around. The girl who answered was Bri. She clearly needs to be talked to. Anyway, food is good but the service needs to get better.

  • Miracle M.

I was not pleased with the service. There was an hour wait then another hour wait for the food to come out. We had five adults and three children but yet they stuck us in a small booth. The food was nothing to call home about.

  • Hannah J.

The gluten free menu is surprisingly good here. I usually get the pulled pork with a loaded baked potato and cinnamon apples. It's good and I've never gotten sick from it. For those without dietary restrictions, the baked beans and fire roasted corn is excellent (or so I've heard). The downside is that the atmosphere is obviously catered to men and kind of obnoxious.

This review is not about the food. I enjoyed the food. THIS IS ABOUT INTEGRITY. I sat at the bar and had wings. The bartender.. young blonde.. was so busy flirting with all the guys at the other end of the bar she virtually ignored me. I had to stop her as she was whisking by to ask for a drink. Same goes for when I finally got to order food. BTW... . the food order she got WRONG. I decided I'd do something I rarely do.. I TIPPED HER JUST $1.. to make a statement. Imagine my surprise to check my credit card account online to see that she TRANSPOSED THE TIP AMOUNT FROM A $1 TO A $7??!! WTF?! I spoke with a mgr who seemed concerned but did not follow through on this bogus charge. He probably didn't speak to the waitress. I had to get my cc company involved. UNACCEPTABLE!!

  • Kris P.

The drinks were great, the food was so-so and my company was eh but I enjoyed the bartenders Josh and LuAnn. I would highly recommend the cornbread probably my favorite part of the meal. I highly recommend the strawberry sangria.

This is my birthday weekend and we found Smokey Bones after driving for 6 hours. Tired and hungry me and my family didn't expect much at such a late hour. We got in seated immediately and our server came and took our order. unfortunately for my hubby they didn't have beef ribs so he chose a steak. Me and my daughter choose to split a half rack if ribs. Side salad came out was as good as a side salad can be. I just happen to ask our waiter to take our picture for my birthday. Our food came out and wow. Steak was absolutely great. Tender juicy, with hot fries on the side. My ribs was flavorful and tender as well. Everything was above and beyond our expectations. When we asked for the bill our waiter comes out with a desert and says"enjoy your birthday" I was speechless. The bill was excellent for what we had. I will definitely go back to this resturant. They set the bar high for all the restaurants I plan on visiting for my birthday weekend.

I don't think I will ever go back here again. The food is great and they have reasonably priced drinks but the customer service has gotten progressively worse each time I've gone. My husband and I had a terrible experience last time we went. When we walked in the hostess didn't even acknowledge us walking in. we finally had to ask the hostess to seat us. After we were seated a waitress didn't come for our drink orders for another 20 minutes. When it came time to pay for our meal I had a coupon that came in the paper that day and a gift card I was given for Christmas and the waitress told me that I couldn't use a coupon and pay with the gift card because the computer wouldn't allow it. I asked to speak with manager and the waitress told me never mind and she would make it happen. Needless to say I was highly unsatisfied with the level of customer service at smokey bones.

  • Nicole M.

My husband and I went there for dinner. He had the rib combo with the St. Louis ribs and pulled pork. And for his two sides he choose beans and fries. Ribs were tender and hot. The beans were great!! Pulled pork was great in between the garlic bread that comes with the combos and smothered in the sauces at the table. I had the loaded BBQ burger with fries. And we ordered the mini donuts for dessert. The server was polite and attentive. Also, be sure to ask for napkins. And they offer a military discount.

  • Stupid I.

I've been here maybe 5-7 times. Good is ok-along with the service. Each time I was there it was because someone in my group (or my wife) wanted to go, and/or we had some coupons. The reason I give it three stars is because I've never had an experience where I was impressed with the service (this includes the time it took to be seated as well as the server*). *I generally always tip 18-20 %, sometimes more, regardless of poor service. Everyone has a bad day.

    (3)
  • Ashleigh J.

Just stopped in. Sat there for 10 minutes. Not one person came to us. Servers standing around laughing a giggling. I know it's one thing to have fun at work. But greet your table first. I won't be returning.

Eh... Tons of potential and always comes up short. Maybe three trips and each time I want it to be awesome and leave feeling it's the Denny's of BBQ. Not terrible, certainly edible. Better places to spend your dining cash.

  • Kaile D.

First time here. Ordered one signature cocktail, didn't have the ingredients. Ordered another to replace it, didn't have those ingredients either. Also the live music is entirely too loud for a mildly populated restaurant. Food wasn't bad, nothing to write home about. Then when someone at the table suggested I take leftovers to my dogs, our server said I should take them rib bones, which is very dangerous to feed dogs as they splinter and can damage their insides. All in all, not sure if I plan to come back.

    (2)

Pretty decent slabs of meat. Been here a few times, service is hit or miss depending on the color of your servers hair lol! Nothing to wait in line for. A call in order will do.

Visiting from California, Decided to try this place out. Baby Back ribs were good, nothing else was memorable. I did remember the service was very sloooowwwwww. We ate here twice during our stay, same slow service each time (even with an empty restaurant). Next visit to VA, I think we will skip this one.

Since living in VA my wife and I have always love going to SB. They have really great drink specials that won't hurt the pockets. They offer a build your own burger menu which is loaded with everything you could imagine. My wife and I ordered the loaded nacho platter. I was thinking about ordering something else until the waitress delivered the massive tower. We added the pulled pork to nachos and I am glad we did. After we completed the nachos neither one of us had room for anything else. SB is always great for watching sports, good food and great drinks.

Service was very friendly and great. The ribs were kinda hard for what they're known for... might not be fresh. But the manager was kind enough to rectify that. San Diego burger is 7 outta 10 seemed the patty was premade. Fried pickles were a bit salty. BBQ Chicken was perfectly grilled and must. Pulled pork was outstanding. The garlic bread was soft and delicious. The sauces was freaking tasty.

Been coming here for several years now, food has always been decent but the service has been, shall we say erratic! Last night was the worst ever,10 minutes after been seated and given menus we still had not been approached by a waitress,2 tables which were occupied after ours were receiving very attentive service!! I consequently spoke with a manager who apologized profusely and offered us a free appetizer and drinks,a decent gesture but not enough to warrant a re- visit. Smokey Bones has had one chance too many !!!

I came here with my Mom and 3 kids after purchasing advance tickets to a movie across the street. We were seated immediately. It was a Thursday night and I noticed 2 large (8+) parties that were ahead of us. Our waiter took our drink orders and got them to us quickly. While discussing dinner options, he suggested my daughter and I split a rib order instead of ordering 2 smaller orders. A lot of places frown upon that, so it was appreciated. He must have put a rush request on our meals, because our food came out before one of the bigger tables. This was also appreciated. Everyone liked their food except my son. He complained about his mac and cheese and his strawberry lemonade. I thought he was just being whiny until I tasted it. The strawberry lemonade had Sprite in it and my younger 2 HATE soda and won't drink it. His mac and cheese tasted like it had jalapeno juice in it. He was right; it was gross. The ribs, chicken, and club sandwich everyone else had were perfect. If we're in the area again, I'd stop for dinner.

Ribs and Chicken combo I got was plenty of food and fairly priced. The ribs were cooked very well as was the chicken. Yeah the towelettes were small but only if you don't lick your fingers first. Everyone else I ate with seemed to enjoy their meal very much as did I. I know this is a chain, but being from Jersey I've never seen one before I had it in Virginia Beach. I would return.

Ordered St Louis rib/ chic combo, with beans and broccoli (wanted cole slaw, they were out). Ribs were meaty, good flavor, not close to being "fall off the bone". Beans were way too sweat, broccoli was very salty.. Oh,chicken was good. Took awhile to get seated... Service was ok.

This is a favorite go to spot when we are okay going to a chain. If you don't want to deal with the parking garage in town center, this is the place to go! Their corn bread is awesome! We haven't had a bad meal, but aside from the corn bread we also haven't had a meal that has wowed us.

I absolutely love this place! Pros: Fast service Friendly waiters Great food Cons: Always a wait time for a table Kitchen could be faster So far we've been here twice and every time we have loved the food. Both times we had a wait time of 5-10 mins for a table for two. Average prices for a chain. Only two things so far that have bothered me and that's the time for a table and the last time we were there I ordered an app for my main meal and I didn't receive it until the check came and my husband had already ate his entire meal of ribs and potatoes. I'm hoping it was a one time thing, so we will go again, fingers crossed!

I know. I know. It's a chain but I'm reviewing this place because damn was the nutty chicken salad good. Grilled chicken served with nuts (hence the name), strawberries, dried up fruit and goat cheese. I didn't notice any dressing at first but it was there...in the perfect amount. It was an overall tasty and healthy meal. I really wanted to indulge in some sticky ribs but I just started doing crossfit so I'm going to stop negating my ass kickin' workouts with food. My waitress was super sweet and accommodated our business meeting without interruptions. Her and all her co-workers were very purty. That was a plus. This place makes me want to get back on a salad diet.

The bbq was very tasty once I killed it with sauce. It was not the worse but definitely not the best or what I remember years ago. I don't visit often and stopped by one day during lunch at work. It was just ok...nothing special.

Not good. Dry food, not good flavors, the macnchz was horrible.. no flavor and watery! I stopped coming here years ago but decided to try again.. bad idea. .. Don't come here!

    (1)
  • Anthony S.

Food was good. BBQ is what they known for, so if you don't want that don't come here. Depending on what you order, food comes out pretty quick. Drink prices are high.., family if 4 for under $50 is a pretty good meal though. Combo plates will fill you up, don't let it deceive you about being enough food. They have a 10% military discount, just be sure to ask. Server and staff seamed nice on this visit. Dinner between 530-630. Took full hour to eat. Worth every penny. Only disappointment is people smoke right outside of entrance of restaurant. ..

Food flavor and quality was outstanding! The service, however, was anything but. The hostess was new, which I can appreciate. Everyone has to start somewhere. After we were seated it was about 15-20 minutes before we were able to submit a drink order. When our drinks came out another 10-15 minutes after we ordered, 2 of them were wrong. It was only 4 of us! The waitress didn't know anything about the beer menu and when I asked her she responded by saying "well I'm not even 21." But she served us the alcohol. Isn't there a law prohibiting people under the drinking age from serving drinks? When our food came out my wife's side did not. We made the waitress aware and we still did not get it. When we asked her to take it off she finally tried to bring it out. This is a great restaurant but the service side has to be killing their business. Give your employees a class!!!!!

This is generally our after work hang out. Definitely a normal chain restaurant with great late night specials. Friday and Saturday nights it turns into a "club" with a DJ. The music tends to get pretty loud which can be a turn off. TVs scattered through the restaurant that play all the current sports games and music videos. Very Buffalo Wild Wings-esque. Negative: Bartenders are slow to greet. Premium patties for burgers are frozen not fresh. Positive: The cheese fries and pretzel dunkers are always a sure thing.

I like my bones, but I love them Smokey!! Smokey Bones is such a fun, laid back place to go. Out of most of the places I call on a regular basis, they always take reservations and we get a nice long table in the back of the restaurant and always have a nice time. I love ordering the BBQ Chicken. It's so juicy and the flavor is perfect. I highly recommend them for birthday parties or other big get togethers with friends.

Not a bad spot. Good atmosphere, food is decent. I had the ribs and BBQ chicken Friday night 6 June 2014. Ribs were tough and I didn't like the sweet BBQ sauce. The chicken was on point though. Prices are good as well.

Been here three times (cause i had coupons) I got brisket which sucked, it was dry and luke warm compared to the scolding hot baked beans (like boiling, microwave hot). The next time I got a burger which was okay, Id rather eat Red Robins burgers. The wait staff is pretty hot, but im sure the food wouldnt pass a Smokey Bones franchise test on a nightly basis.

Went here with family I ordered salmon which was dry. My daughter ordered fish and chips, the fish looked and tasted like the frozen filets you buy in a grocery store. My husbands burger was dry and tasteless. None of us finished our meal. It was disappointing and we felt very ripped off when we got the bill. Needless to say we will not be back.

I can summarize this place in four easy words: "TGI Friday's meets barbecue." Glossy menus with prices that end in ".99" with a selection of a dozen draft and bottled beers. My 22 ounce Blue Moon was served with the obligatory wedge of orange. The 1/3 rack of St. Louis ribs was fall-off-the-bone as was the quarter chicken. The baked potato was a little small but it was perfectly cooked and wasn't wrapped in aluminum foil (which I hate!). Five squeeze bottles of barbecue sauces were on the table with ketchup. Good food. Maybe not great prices, but reasonable.

Little late in this review. Service was horrible, management was non existent. Will never consider smokey bones in VA Beach for as long as I live here. Food was at best "decent.". Would not waste my time again, nor would recommend it to anyone else.

well being a bit of a BBQ and Ribs Snobb I'm rather picky about my Ribs and I have been dragged to Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill a few times and I'll say this in complete honesty... the quality fluctuates some days the ribs are mouthwatering fallin off the bone (Damn I ate them all ready!!!) and other times ya get more fat than meat and the are tough a gristly so on a good day they are the best "chain" ribs you can find and are Five Star. On a bad day... 3 is generous for the food.. Service I've never been disappointed... other menu Items? not a clue... Lots of TV's around the bar and the crowd gets quite loud and passionate about the sports....

Horrible night eating here! Steak/ribeye was over cooked! Ribs were like eating shoe leather. Drinks were not refilled in timely manner/if at all! They were not even that busy this evening. Yet we had waited well over hour and half for dinner to come. Even manager had stated he has had a bad night in the kitchen. We saw other tables complaining about food and service as well. Also the music is absolutely loud!! Can't even speak to your party without yelling across table. Definitely on our blacklist from now on.

I've been there a few times and i'ts always a good dining experience. The best bbq ribs around. The rest of the menu good to very good. A bit loud, but tolerable. Excellent wait staff. The only thing I don't like is the tiny wet napkins... get some large one like a real BBQ place should. Overall, highly recommend!

Went there for the first time for dinner the other night. I ordered the smoked turkey and it was very good. It had a great smoky flavor. It wasn't dry at all and the portion was good. I went there with a group of people and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The atmosphere is nice. I saw a large diversity of people. Young, old, and people with families. I would definitely try it again if I am back in the area.

I don't eat Ribs, Pork, or Cow...so why in the world would I go to Smokey Bones??? Because I have friends who do eat those things and this is a place that is smack in the middle of a lot of places and it's usually not very busy and you can get an OK meal there for not too much money. I've eaten their Salmon which was decent. I've also had a couple of their salads which were salads...lol...it's hard to be blown away by a salad you know? I do remember the last time I was there the waitress was very friendly and did her job very well!! The bottom line...would I go there again? Yes. Would I be the one to pick this place as my first choice? No, this wouldn't be my first choice, but I've never had that bad of an experience there to never return.

Most recent experiences with this Smokey Bones have been after-hours in the bar. Service: good to very good. Friendly staff and fairly prompt. Food: 1) Smoked Wings. Nom nom. Nom nom. Yes please. 2) Cuban sandwich: It is good...it is tasty...but it isn't a "real" Cuban sandwich (sorry I lived in Miami and know) Bar: Plenty of adult beverages and priced on par Vibe: Young-ish but not too young. Fun crowd enjoying music or trivia (downside might be the volume...bring ear plugs if sensitive). A-OK bar venue. One thumb up!

The pulled pork was yummmmmy...hubby ate the rib and sausage combo...he thought it was "pretty darn good"! The environment was pretty ok and the waitress was a little weird but besides that it was a do again experience. I can say we sat near this couple who appeared to be on their first date...they exchanged zodiac signs and the female proceeded to pretty much "dis" on the guy the rest of their meal...it was funny/sad because the guy just kept taking her crap?!@%! I would have really loved to see the guy excuse himself to the restroom but really exit the building while leaving the chicken-duck-100% ratchet heffa sitting there with the bill!

Once again me and the hubby are new to the area. We drive past it everyday. So we decided to trying it out. I am not a huge meat eater but I was willing to give the place a chance. Once we were seated it took a few minutes for our waitress to greet us. Once she did she was very attentive. The food came out fast and was good. I have two complaints first, for $13 4-5 thin slices of brisket it not enough and second I hate when that manger awkwardly comes over to the table to ask if everything is ok. Who's bright idea was that? If I had an issue I'd call you over. Overall we enjoyed the place. We will definitely be going back.

I do like this place. I definitely don't seek out to come here, but my dad is a big fan so we stop by often. The staff here are always very nice and professional and the restaurant is always clean. The food is alright - I don't crave it, but it's enjoyable. Probably my most two favorite things there are the corn bread and their fire sticks - essentially cheese fries covered in barbeque sauce, bacon and spring onions. Perfect with ranch dressing! Yum.

I came here with the intention of having their full rack of St. Louis-style ribs. The ribs were tender and smoked to near perfection. The dry rub mix was mouth-watering and the portion was large, about a foot in length. My only gripe about this place was the service. I was a little concerned by my server's attitude. She wasn't overtly mean but we didn't feel welcome. You can take that for what it's worth. I assumed Va Beach was north enough to where things like this wouldn't happen. It's really disappointing though, because I would've made this a go-to spot for ribs. But my last experience there prevents that from happening again. Some places still whistle dixie...

I'm only in VA for a few weeks for a class. Well, there were two guys in my class who who kept raving about SB saying it had really good food. They pretty much went to SB every other night and honored us with rave reviews the next day. So we decided to head over to the famous SB as a class and check out the hype. Its a really cool kinda laid back place. Big bar in the middle. And I saw immediately why the guys liked the place so much...most if not all of the waitress' were good looking. (Go figure) we sat down at a big table near the bar and I checked out the menu. It had a lot of really good looking food. But I was in the mood for steak. I got the build your own steak 7oz top sirloin medium rare with mushroom/redwine sauce and sides of Mac-n-cheese and mashed potatoes. It didn't take too long for food to come out. Good conversation and four TVs above the bar helped pass the time. Our food came out pretty much all together. My food was THE BOMB. I was very very happy with everything on my plate. One class mate got the pulled pork nachos which were HUGE ( Giant, medium pizza, deep dish looking plate with a ton of cheesy, porky, chippy goodness) and they must have been good cuz he devoured them. Everyone's food looked really good. The ribs, the meat literally fell off the bone on the ribs. No one had anything negative to say about the food. I personally thought the pulled pork sandwich looked a little plain but the guy seemed to enjoy it. The only downside was our waitress. She was fine with most of our table but was really kind of rude to one of our party. And it started off joking but you could tell she did not like this guy but it was for no apparent reason. He had a coupon thing that he asked the front- greeter-lady for and this waitress comes up and she says 'we have spy's all around and I know you stole that'. We told her it was given to him and she says 'yea right' and had an attitude with him the rest of the meal. She just about completely ignored two of our party. She brought out their drink and food with everyone elses but never refilled their drink and by passed them to talk to other people at our table when they were trying to get her attention to get a soda. She spent a good 20 minutes telling half the table her life story when one had asked her a really simple question. 5 min in and our table was no longer interested about her moving back in with her parents. Getting the check was ridiculous! Is took For-EV-ER We had a total of 10 people three of which had the coupon things and we were all ready to pay. She walked by us with our stack of checks a good three or four times in 15 min span before she finally stopped at our table. I was like "finally my check, cool" She took the coupon things and then disappeared for another twenty minuets. We were like WTF? Why couldn't she give the rest of us non-coupon-having customers our non-discounted checks first and THEN applied the coupon customers theirs? She was lucky she got an automatic gratuity charge (for parties over 8 i think)out of us cuz most of us did not leave a tip. The place was cool, food was great, service was lacking. I would go back if I was staying here longer but I would opt for a different waitress.

Not a happy birthday! A 2PM birthday special meal that was not special at all. Two hamburgers ordered medium rare delivered 30 minutes later medium well. This performance with hamburgers is becoming a habit with these cooks. No problem historically with other dishes but can't say anything good about the hamburger production which is supposed to be a specialty. Or maybe it's just my family which gets this special meal service. Will no longer try to be customers for the hamburgers since it just doesn't work. May return for anything else but now have to think twice. We have received comped meals, manager apologies and special discount coupons for previous errors but the cooks just don't seem to have the message. No attempt to "fix" the problem today except for a message on the receipt for in house consumption.

I will admit, I feel this place has gone down a little since thye opened but I still love the pulled pork and the sweet BBQ sauce. For a chain restaurant I think these guys do it right. The dry rubbed, smoked chicken wings are some of the best wings I have ever had. When I go in now I get the two item combo and get the wings and pulled pork with the fire sticks. The big complaint I have now is that it went from family restaurant to more of a sports bar. The music is way to loud and the TV's only have sports on. My kids are 4 & 6, they want to see cartoons not sports. Plus, we can't hear each other over the music. If they would drop the night club during the day theme then I would find it far more enjoyable, as I did when they opened this location.

Outstanding BBQ menu with a great selection of drinks. At the advice of one of the numerous beautiful waitresses I agree with her recommendation of the Black Jack Lemonade. The brown sugar BBQ sauce was amazing and for dessert their sweet shots were perfect for satisfying a sweet tooth. The food, service and scenery are undoubtedly a few of the many perks. Add that they are opened until 2 am and I am sure I will be back for some late night relaxation.

I enjoy this place. It actually might be my favorite bar in the area. Drinks are always made to my liking, and the bartenders are always fun to talk to. The food is tasty, from the "morning glory" burger, to their pretzel bones. I'm a repeating customer and will continue to be.

Have been here multiple visits and feel the food goes down each time a little. The shrimp dunker appetizer was very tasty and the shrimp were large. For dinner I had the dinner salmon which was prepared well, but light on the portion size. Logan's provides about twice the size Salmon. Steamed Broccoli was tasty and well done, but once again both mine and my companion's portions were skimpy. For broccoli? Really? Finally, the 'loaded' mashed potatoes were scooped onto the plate like from a cafeteria. They also were bland and not very tasty. I would not pay for them as a premium side again. Overall, this is just a so so average place. Frankies or Rib City are better choices for BBQ in the Kempsville area.

I went here because a friend said that the ribs were awesome. Weird that he had not been there in more than a year. You will see that some of the other reviews indicate that the service and food has changed. I guess that it has. The food was decent at best, and it wa a good spot to go to if you haven't had any ribs in a while. There wasn't anything special about the food though. The service was average at best.

I've always had a good experience here. The food comes out in a timely fashion and is really good and the drinks are priced very well. If you go after 10pm I believe you can get half off appetizers.

Heard some good stuff about the place so I took a business associate out for dinner. It was good service but the lunch was not worth the $45 spent. The cornbread appetizer with flavored butter was good. The spinach/steak salad my friend had looked exactly what you'd expect from a chain restaurant (sloppy). My turkey burger was okay (not a wow), the fries were pretty good. I admit I did not try any of the signature dishes, so I cannot report on that. Still, I'm not planning a repeat if I have to pay. It cost too much for what you get.

Took my sister here for dinner last night. I kept driving by and wanting to try it out. We ordered the spinach dip for the appetizer which was really tasty and a very big serving for two people. I had ordered the wings and a side cesaer salad. The wings were good and actually pretty big in size

Middle of the road bbq from a corporate restaurant. I had a gift card or I probably wouldn't have eaten factory bbq in Virginia. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything great either. The beer was cold though.

Short version: Good place to go for appetizers, beer and watching football with a group of friends. Not so good if you are looking to sit down to dinner and have a conversation with someone. Went here with my husband to celebrate my birthday and I have to admit my feelings about the place are mixed. The atmosphere is great for watching a football game (we were there on a Sunday). Lots of televisions, and it seems like they have good drink specials. Plus, Wednesday is military appreciation night (15% off), and I can't really knock any place too hard that takes care of service members that way. The music was loud, but tolerable for the most part. That being said... Our server was very friendly and the service was quick....(and this is was a first for me), but I was almost a little concerned that the food was coming out of the kitchen a little too fast, almost as if things had been made already and it was just convenient that we happened to order that particular thing. We started with the party pleaser appetizer. The fries were pretty good, the egg rolls were nice and crispy on the outside but a little mushy (that's the technical term) on the inside and the chicken tenders were like every other chicken tender out there. Not bad, but nothing to really rave about. I had the St. Louis Ribs combo ($13.99) with the brisket and sides of fire roasted corn and cinnamon apples. By far my favorite thing of the plate was the cinnamon apples. I have to give Smokey Bones a lot of credit though...the ribs were fall off the bone tender and if I wanted to I could have shred the brisket with my fork. However, there was practically no flavor to the meat itself! I had to use one of the sauces on the table to get any sort of spice or taste. Some people prefer to drown their barbecue in sauce....I have never been one of those people. I say let the meat stand on its own two legs! Or would that be four legs in this case? Anyway... The corn wasn't bad, just not a whole lot of flavor. No complaints about the cinnamon apples. Reasonably priced food...but if you are a barbecue connoisseur I wouldn't recommend this place.

Smokey Bones is a chain, but this is the first time I've actually been to one. I dig how the screens would play the music videos synchronized with the ambient music. It would have been cool to hear some black artists though - not one of color during the entire meal. Brisket? Awesome - great array of sauces on the table too. Their cornbread with honey butter was cool.. ...nothing major, still offended they even call it cornbread. More jiffy than cast iron. I'll be back though - brisket and sides were great.

I went to Smokey Bones last year and tried some of the baby back ribs and french fries. The food here is pretty decent. The ribs lack a smoke flavor that I'm used to getting but it taste pretty good. The ribs are really soft and tasty. The portions are pretty big as well. The french fries also tasted decent. We also had some callamari for an appetizer. It was alright but nothing to scream about. The decor is pretty nice. It's designed like a nice typical rib house. I recommend it to anyone looking for some decent ribs. I'll be sure to check it out again when I'm in town.

The portions were pretty small. i personally didn't have the bbq but my friends had the brisket, and steak. one of my friends said the brisket was pretty good but the serving size was pretty small for the price he paid. my other friend who had the steak ordered it medium rare and that steak was definitely well done. no pink at all. service was pretty mediocre. we won't be coming back..

  • Nathan L.

I liked their sweet tea and the food was decent. Not the best BBQ I've had, but it was good. I had the pulled pork and the brisket and just wish I had more choices in sauce than the strange mustardy type and the standard BBQ. The pork was better than the brisket for sure. The brisket seemed like it was microwaved instead of BBQ'd. It was kinda mushy and just didn't look like it should have. I had a side of beans and a side of coleslaw and those were both decent but nothing special. Overall it was a free lunch so it was pretty good, but I can't say I would go back for BBQ if I was in the area.

Stopped here for dinner after a day of playing tourist in colonial Virginia and I'm 100% sure I won't be coming back. We showed up about 5pm before the big dinner rush. We were seated in a booth - don't sit down too hard, the seats looked padded but they're hard as a rock - and waited about 10 minutes before our server came by to even say hello. I amazingly made up my mind about what I wanted to eat before she even showed up. She never said her name so I can't tell you who she was. While I was sitting there, I noticed the couple eating at the table across from our booth spilled a drink and no one came to help wipe up. Instead, the little girl from another booth offered up the napkins from her table. I ordered the St. Louis combo with the brisket, and beans and broccoli sides. The best thing about the meal was the the beans. They were flavorful and soft. The brisket lacked any taste. I used all the sauces on the table to make them palatable. My ribs were half good. By that, I mean they tasted good but were so burned and crispy on the bottom side there wasn't much I'd really want to eat. The meal itself wasn't that great. The service was pretty lousy. If you're looking for a place that smells good, come here. If you want the food to taste good as well, go somewhere else.

Man, this place has gone downhill since it opened. We would go to Smokey Bones for the ribs and cornbread and leave so fat and happy we couldn't stand it. My in-laws would come and visit and we would take them here because they really liked what they got. Well...the last time they were in town we took them for dinner one night. I knew something was up when I noticed the menus were actual menus and not the placemat menu we were used to. They used to serve full and half rack ribs for a decent price. Now, they serve lame 1/3, 1/2, and full but the size of a 1/2 rack is like 3 inches long and they jacked up the price. When I asked the waitress what was going on she told us that they were under new management and this management wanted to serve more "bar style food". She also mentioned they were staying open later and would be offering beer pong and karaoke. WTF? I don't want to go to Smokey Bones ( A RIB JOINT ) for bar style food, I want finger lickin' good RIBS! Once we had our food served it was obvious they were already working on the bar style food, bland and unenjoyable, unless you're too drunk from all the beer you drank while playing beer bong! Last I checked, Town Center Virginia Beach is not a college campus or someone's garage, get real Smokey Bones. You've lost my business.

I decided on the Bones based on previous visits when the business plan was comfort food BBQ in generous portions served in a well lit family atmosphere. Boy, has that changed! My first tip off should have been the dim lighting and the servers dressed in black t shirts and signs proclaiming drink specials till 0200 in the morning. This didn't look good but I have a morbid curiosity (and I was hungry), so I decided to see it through. Although almost everyone at the bar was having food, it seemed like the bartenders were inept at taking food orders. The guy next to me sent his burger back due to wrong toppings. I ordered a salad with my dinner which came after the dinner was served. "Oops, I didn't put that salad in till later." OK, give me the salad and return the plate. The salad, excluding the cherry tomatoes, was void of color; pale yellow and white lettuce and cucumbers. No surprise it was void of taste as well. The dinner was returned (no exchange of the food for fresh) which was a third rack of ribs, smoked turkey "piled high" and beans and O' rings. The turkey was decent but less than a quarter inch of shaved meat doesn't meet my definition of piled high. The ribs had a baked on sauce that could pass for enamel. The meat was sparse and had no taste to suggest they had been slow cooked at a low temperature. Looking around the bar at other patron's plates I could see that the days of large portions vanished with the concept change. Fortunately, the beans were good and the O'rings, although frozen, were very good. Still, a sad commentary when frozen O'rings are the highlight of the meal. Never once did the server inquiry as to the status of my food. Considering the quality, portions and service, I think it would be best to give this bone yard of a restaurant a backyard burial and reopen it as a techno bar.

While this may look like a BBQ safe haven, it is anything but. I went there tonight with my fiancé and two boys, I ordered the brisket which if you know BBQ is supposed to be tender and juicy, regrettably it was not. My baked beans tasted as if they had been dumped in super sweet BBQ sauce and microwaved because I'm pretty sure I should feel the meat of the bean break in my mouth. Now as for the service, my waiter was polite and courteous however after the food comes and we stacked our appetizer plates with two empty glasses from refills they remained there for the rest of our meal. In other terms save your money for a trip down south for some real barbecue for half the price!

I always like their dry rub ribs and killer sides. I enjoy the getting meat that is cooked correctly ( not over done ) AND not slathered is some sweet sugary gravy. They have 4 selections of sauces for me to add to my meat - I soooo prefer this as an eating experience - more sauces : better. The loaded mashed potatoes are awesome and I personally shy away from most spud products by choice. Bonus is the Tv / Sports atmosphere [ a key reason I like this location ] . . . go for some good food / watch any sports thing . . . I will also note the lovely Bone's Girls ( servers ) did well on keeping the beverages in sync, knowledgeable on menu tastie bits and exhibited ample glitter top regions for the benefit of mostly male gentleman in the bar area watching Sunday Night Football AND a MLB playoff game. Nice eye candy bonus. Sorry ladies, didn't notice any beef cakes but I am sure if they had them they would be equal opportunity flauntage.

The beer was cold though.

ambiance was great, service was above average, a little too attentive. food was an 8 and it was quick. def the spot to go if you wanna catch a football game and have some beers. highly recommended.

  • Vanessa J.

I was not pleased with the service. There was an hour wait then another hour wait for the food to come out. We had five adults and three children but yet they stuck us in a small booth. The food was nothing to call home about.

All in all, not sure if I plan to come back.

if you want to go somewhere and have a cheap good drink this place is the place, they have cheap drinks any time of the day, also on some friday and saturday nights they have live top 100 music

    (3)
